The Real Bionic Arm Blues
Even if they have the money, not so many people get plastic surgery I believe. Probably most of cosmetic surgery clients are people who really need it for their jobs: actors, models, and the like. And it’s understandable for them, isn’t it? At least it makes sense to me.
But what of the very rich, bleached blonde aging woman who gets a face-lift out of what seems to us like sheer vanity? She’s the one that gets judged, isn’t she? After, most very wealthy people don’t opt for cosmetic surgery just to hide the fact that they’re getting older.
I suppose bionics in the future will be like too. And although it will be quite possible to do, I seriously doubt that medical labs will be building superhuman bionic parts that enable a man to run as fast as a car, fly like an eagle, or bend steel in his bare hands. I do believe that ‘eventually’ that age will come, but probably not for a very long time. People will remain modest when replacing a body part.
Besides, what if you did receive a superhuman forearm and hand, for example? Wouldn’t you soon get all out of whack with your other normal arm and become resentful of it? You’d want matching appendages for sure. You could also severely damage other parts of your body through putting excess strain on your frame by demanding it to keep up with your superhuman part. I therefore think that while bionic parts will be commonplace in the future, they will be highly regulated.
Of course, there will be black market demand for superhuman parts and there is no doubt they will be bought, sold, and installed on customers, adventurous or otherwise. But let the buyer- as well as unsuspecting passerby- beware.
